Our Motto: Kifuliiru Kigayaho

Understanding the profound meaning and vision behind our guiding principle

Kifuliiru Kigayaho

English: Kifuliiru Will Endure
Français: Le Kifuliiru Perdurera
Kiswahili: Kifuliiru Kitadumu

The Meaning

"Kifuliiru Kigayaho" is more than just a motto — it is a solemn promise, a declaration of commitment, and a vision for the future. In Kifuliiru, this phrase embodies the determination and resilience of the Bafuliiru people to ensure their language, culture, and identity persist through generations.

The word "kigayaho" carries deep significance — it speaks to permanence, persistence, and endurance. This is not merely about surviving; it is about thriving, lasting, and remaining vibrant in the face of challenges.

Why "Endure" Instead of "Shine"?

Previously, this motto was sometimes translated as "Kifuliiru will shine" (Kifuliiru kitang'aa in Swahili). However, the true essence of "kigayaho" is better captured by the concept of enduranceand permanence.

While "shine" suggests brightness and visibility, "endure" speaks to something far more profound:

  • Resilience: The ability to withstand challenges, adversity, and the test of time
  • Permanence: A commitment to lasting beyond temporary trends or external pressures
  • Persistence: Continuing to exist, thrive, and maintain cultural identity across generations
  • Strength: The inner fortitude to remain steadfast in the face of language endangerment

The Swahili translation "Kitadumu" and French translation "Perdurera"both accurately convey this sense of enduring, lasting, and persisting — capturing the true spirit of the Kifuliiru motto.

The ancestral territory in Uvira, South Kivu — the cultural and spiritual heartland

Abafuliiru (The People) →
