What Is the Foundation

The Community's Permanent Home

The Kifuliiru Foundation is not a separate organization. It is the community governance and asset protection arm of Kifuliiru Lab, the part of our institution that faces the community and protects what belongs to them.

All Kifuliiru Language Assets, including the platforms, the corpus, the tools, and the domains, are held in trust for the Bafuliiru community. Not for Wekify LLC. Not for any investor. Not for any institution. For the people who speak this language.

When resources allow, the Foundation will be formally registered as an independent nonprofit entity, fully governed by the Bafuliiru community. Until then, its commitments are documented publicly and are binding.

The language belongs to its people. Not to any company, institution, or founder. To the Bafuliiru community, past, present, and future.

How It Works

From Custodian to Community

The Foundation moves through a defined transition from founder-held to community-governed. Each stage has clear obligations and clear goals.

  • Personal Seeding, Current Phase. Ayivugwe Kabemba Mukome personally funds both the Lab and the Foundation arm. Three separate documented flows establish institutional independence from day one, even before the community joins the funding.
  • Community Co-Funding. Community donations and store revenue become the primary engines. The Founding Circle expands. Community members who give receive store credit back. Financial participation becomes governance participation.
  • Full Community Independence. The Foundation is formally registered as a nonprofit. The board is drawn from the Bafuliiru community in South Kivu, the diaspora, and globally. All language assets transfer to the Foundation at no cost. The community governs permanently.

Our Commitments

What We Will Never Do

  • Never Sell the Assets. Kifuliiru Language Assets will never be sold, transferred to investors, or used as commercial collateral under any circumstances, ever.
  • No Commercial Control. Wekify LLC will never hold governance authority over Foundation decisions. The Foundation, once established, is governed by the community, not by any company.
  • No Conditions on the Language. No external funder, partner, or institution will ever acquire the right to dictate decisions about the Kifuliiru language, its documentation, standardization, or digital representation.
  • Permanent Community Ownership. The Founding Circle's authority is transitional. The community's authority is permanent. Every governance decision moves toward full community control, not away from it.

Community Funding

$1 Is Sovereignty

The Foundation is funded by the community it serves. When the community funds the work, the community governs the work. This is not a charity model. It is an ownership model.

$1 per month from 500 people equals $6,000 per year. Enough to keep the Lab running independently, without answering to any external institution. Small contributions. Real sovereignty.

  • Community donates to the Lab in any amount: $1, $5, $10.
  • Donors receive store credit; their contribution returns as cultural ownership.
  • The Lab operates: platforms maintained, research continued, tools improved.
  • The community benefits through better tools, richer resources, and a stronger digital presence.
