Principle
Our Privacy Position
Kifuliiru Lab treats personal information as something entrusted to us, not as a product. We collect only what is reasonably needed to run our websites, respond to people, protect the platforms, and support the language preservation work.
The public website at kifuliiru.org now serves as the representative home for our broader Kifuliiru language work. This policy also guides connected Kifuliiru platforms, products, and services operated by Kifuliiru Lab or Wekify LLC when they link back to this policy.
Scope
Information We May Collect
Depending on how someone uses our sites or platforms, we may receive limited information:
- Contact information someone chooses to send us, such as a name, email address, message, partnership request, or support inquiry.
- Contribution information someone chooses to submit, such as language examples, corrections, cultural notes, recordings, translations, or publication materials.
- Account information on platforms that require sign-in, such as contributor tools, administrative dashboards, or learning systems.
- Basic technical information that most websites receive automatically, such as browser type, device type, pages visited, approximate location from IP address, error logs, and security logs.
- Cookies or similar local storage when needed for basic site function, preferences, security, analytics, or helping us understand whether the website is serving people well.
Children
Children's Privacy
We do not ask children to provide personal information, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from children through this website. Kifuliiru language materials may be used by families, teachers, and young learners, but children should not submit names, contact details, private messages, recordings, or other personal information to us without a parent, guardian, or responsible adult.
If a parent or guardian believes a child has sent us personal information, contact us at kifuliiru@gmail.com. We will review the request and delete the information where appropriate.
Use
How We Use Information
We use information to serve people in the right way and keep the work trustworthy:
- To respond to messages, collaboration requests, questions, and support needs.
- To operate, secure, debug, and improve the websites, apps, and contributor platforms.
- To manage language preservation work, including review, validation, publishing, attribution, and quality control where appropriate.
- To understand which resources are useful so we can improve navigation, accessibility, content, and platform reliability.
- To prevent abuse, spam, unauthorized access, scraping, or misuse of Kifuliiru language resources.
- To comply with legal obligations or respond to lawful requests when required.
Limits
What We Do Not Do
- We do not sell personal information.
- We do not build advertising profiles from user activity.
- We do not collect personal data from children as part of our language work.
- We do not use private contributor or contact information as training data for public release without permission or another clear lawful basis.
- We do not treat community language knowledge as a commodity detached from the people it comes from.
App safety
Data Safety Declarations
For app stores, mobile apps, and connected Kifuliiru platforms, our data safety declarations should stay aligned with this policy:
- Contact forms may collect a name, email address, and message when someone chooses to contact us. We use this for support, collaboration, and responding to the request. We do not sell this information.
- Push notifications, if enabled through a service such as OneSignal, may use a device or push token so notifications can be delivered. We use this only for notifications and related platform operation.
- Audio delivered from Supabase storage is used for content delivery. We do not collect personal data from users simply because they listen to audio resources.
- Crash reporting or analytics should be declared only if added, such as Firebase Analytics or Crashlytics. If added later, it should be limited to reliability, diagnostics, and understanding whether the platform is serving people well.
Stewardship
Language and Cultural Contributions
Some Kifuliiru materials are meant to become public resources: words, phrases, examples, stories, educational materials, recordings, corrections, and other cultural or linguistic contributions. When someone submits material for publication, validation, research, teaching, or preservation, we may review, edit, organize, translate, display, archive, or publish that material as part of the Kifuliiru language mission.
When attribution, consent, or cultural sensitivity matters, we aim to handle it with care. Some knowledge should be public, some should be protected, and some should be handled only with community guidance.
Sharing
Sharing Information
We share limited information only when there is a real reason:
- With service providers that help host, secure, maintain, analyze, or operate the platforms.
- With collaborators or reviewers when needed to validate or publish submitted language materials.
- With Wekify LLC, which supports the technical and organizational work behind Kifuliiru Lab.
- When required by law, safety needs, platform protection, or a valid legal process.
- With permission from the person who provided the information.
Control
Retention and Deletion
We keep personal information only as long as needed for the purpose it was collected, unless we need to keep it for security, legal, archival, or language stewardship reasons. Publicly contributed language materials may remain part of the public archive, corpus, publications, or educational resources even if related contact information is later removed.
To ask about access, correction, or deletion of personal information, contact kifuliiru@gmail.com. We may need to verify the request before acting on it.
Changes
